Kartheiser was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Janet Marie (née Gruye) and James Ralph Kartheiser. He has four sisters, Andrea, Colette, Elise and Theresa, and a brother, Nathan.

Kartheiser made his screen debut with a bit role in the 1993 film Untamed Heart, opposite Marisa Tomei and Christian Slater. Vincent Paul Kartheiser (born May 5, 1979) is an American actor. Although he primarily appears in independent films, he is also known for his role as Connor on the TV series Angel, and as ambitious young ad executive Pete Campbell on Mad Men.
